Supporting Health during Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a very special and sacred time for parents to be, and without exception every expectant mother experiences her own personal journey from conception right through to the postnatal stage and beyond. During this time of transition, the body-mind has to endure many physiological and physical adaptations which may result in some common pregnancy related illnesses. These combined changes may also impact pre-existing conditions, for which pregnancy may exacerbate.
Many of these conditions can be alleviated by the use of plant aromatics, supporting the body and mind in a wonderfully holistic way. Combined with integrated holistic therapy, we will bring balance, focusing on every aspect of your wellbeing.
Some common pregnancy related symptoms that we can support may include the following:
Hypertension or hypotension
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Anxiety, depression, worry
Changes in mood and behaviour
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Pelvic floor strength / health
Sacral discomfort (SPI, PGP)
Joint or muscular pain / stiffness

What to expect in a pregnancy treatment:
Our first session together requires additional time so that we can have an in-depth chat about your current health, your medical history including any pregnancy related illnesses you may be suffering with, including a review of your pregnancy medical notes. Together we will then agree a focus for your session listening to what your body and mind needs at that moment in time. At this point we will also discuss and select the relevant essential oils based on any patterns of disharmony that are evident, making a blend or two. I can also provide a bespoke remedy to take home so that you can continue self-care in between our sessions.
Depending on our focus for the session work may include; holistic massage; postural awareness; movement; visualisation; trimester specific remedial exercises; gentle passive Thai yoga stretches, along with acupressure/ Shiatsu work and reiki to also support your emotional wellbeing.
During trimester 3 we will also focus on labour preparation and support. Working with both you and your birthing partner (if appropriate), we will start to explore powerful pain relief techniques by stimulating meridian/ acupressure points and birthing positions to prepare you for labour.
I hold separate labour & birth preparation sessions with you and your birthing partner. These sessions are specifically designed to give you the confidence and give you control of your own birthing experience.
Pregnancy treatments are better received laying on a specialised shiatsu floor futon. This can assist in more in-depth work to the hips, lower back and sacrum, bringing in the Swiss ball if appropriate. More importantly during the postnatal stages, allowing you to bring along baby to the session so you can snuggle and enjoy the wonderful benefits together (whilst breastfeeding if you wish!).
I also work using a massage table should floor work be problematic for you.
There are many physiological changes during pregnancy and it is therefore really important that we allow time to discuss your health and review your medical notes at every session. The focus will always be on how we can continue to support your overall wellbeing – physically, physiologically and emotionally, discussing any changes to your health and new concerns that may arise in between treatments.
